How to Use this Guide
In this guide, there are four parts and each part builds on the one before, but you do not have to read them in order. You can jump to what you need most right now.
Part 1: Before We Start (This Chapter)
This is where you are now. It is the warm-up. It explains who this guide is for, why you are right to be skeptical of other finance books, and how to find your entry point. If you are not sure where to start, start here.
Part 2: The Core 10 (Chapters 1-10)
This is the toolkit. Ten chapters. Ten pain points. Ten simple tools.
You do not need to read all ten chapters. Read the ones that speak to your current situation. Each chapter stands alone. You can dip in and out as needed.
Each chapter follows the same structure:
- The Problem — What is going wrong.
- Why the Usual Advice Doesn’t Fit — Why the usual advice did not work.
- Try This Instead — One simple, concrete solution.
- Audience Notes — Tailored advice for your specific situation.
- Your One Tiny Task — One small action to take today.
- Your Challenge — A simple table or checklist to complete.
Part 3: Your Custom Playbook (Chapters 11-13)
This is the workshop where you put the tools to use.
- Chapter 11: Your 30-Day Financial Reset — A gentle, step-by-step plan for everyone. One small action each day. No tribe identification required. This is the heart of this guide.
- Chapter 12: The Monthly Money Date — A simple fifteen-minute ritual to keep you on track after the 30 days.
- Chapter 13: When Life Throws a Curveball — What to do when an emergency hits. The emergency brake protocol.
Part 4: The Long Game (Chapters 14-16)
This is for when you are ready to think bigger. You do not need to read this part until you are ready. It will be here when you are.
- Chapter 14: The Boring Wealth Builders — Index funds, compound interest, and the simple mechanics of growing your money over time. Only for when you are in Growth Layer.
- Chapter 15: The Big Conversations — How to talk to your partner, your parents, your children, your boss, your siblings, your friends, and your financial advisor about money.
- Chapter 16: Generosity Without Guilt — How to give back without wrecking your own finances. Your oxygen mask comes first.
